Alexandra Keane, MD, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon specializing in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery, has joined the Department of Surgery at WashU Medicine as an assistant professor in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Training and expertise
Keane returns to WashU Medicine after completing an aesthetic surgery fellowship at CaloAesthetics Plastic Surgery Center in Louisville, Kentucky, where she trained with world-renowned plastic surgeon, Bradley Calobrace, MD. She previously completed integrated plastic and reconstructive surgery residency training at WashU Medicine in 2025. She earned her medical degree from WashU Medicine in 2019, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
Before pursuing a career in medicine, Keane was captain of the WashU women’s basketball team. The discipline, direct communication and clear expectations that come with leading a team now shape how she works with patients.
Accolades
Keane’s clinical and research interests include aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery, breast implants and implant-associated complications, and approaches to immediate breast reconstruction. Her research has included prospective and randomized studies examining implant-based breast reconstruction, as well as investigations into breast implant-associated malignancies and immune responses. Among her accolades for clinical research and academic work, she received Best Podium Presentation at James Barrett Brown Research Day in 2023 and 2024, the 2019 Best Resident Clinical Research Paper Award from the American Society for Peripheral Nerve, and the 2018 Medical Student Research Award from the Midwestern Association of Plastic Surgeons.
Professional societies
Keane currently serves on The Aesthetic Society’s Women Aesthetic Surgeons Committee and previously served on the American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ Breast-Implant Associated Cancer Committee and Clinical Research Committee.
Keane’s scholarly work also has explored peripheral nerve and neuromuscular junction research, pediatric wound care and facial paralysis, reflecting a broad academic background in reconstructive surgery. She brings her expertise in aesthetic breast surgery, facial rejuvenation, body contouring and implant-based breast reconstruction to WashU Medicine West County Plastic Surgeons.

She will primarily see patients at West County Plastic Surgeons and will perform surgical procedures at West County and Missouri Baptist Medical Center, as well as Barnes-Jewish Hospital.”
