James Barrett Brown, MD, (1899-1971) was chairman of Plastic Surgery from 1955 until 1968. His wife, Bird, continued his legacy of supporting plastic surgery research at Washington University School of Medicine.

Each year, the James Barrett Brown Resident Research Day features a prominent speaker in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery. The Barrett Brown family has been instrumental in advancing academic plastic surgery through the sponsorship of these clinical visiting professors.
